The Billabong Rio Pro was the fifth of seven stops on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour. After the European stop, the tour concludes with the U.S. Open of Surfing in August.

Heading home after Beachley Classic

Lakey makes 1st WCT Semifinal of ’12 

Lakey advanced to the semifinals for the first time on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour. Lakey defeated World No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons in the quarterfinals before falling to Carissa Moore in the semis.

Three more tour stops in the Southern Hemisphere!!!

Hello everyone!!

Hope all is well with you guys, and that y’all had a Happy Easter!

I am over in Australia still. However, I did have the chance to go home for about 10 days after my last contest, which was really nice to get a little break and hang out with friends and family! The ten days went fast, but it was well worth it.

I came back over to Australia for the last three world tour events in the Southern Hemisphere. First stop was Bells Beach just outside of Melbourne. Bells is a very iconic venue on the tour seeing that it is the longest running event ever. This year was the 51st annual event at Bells. I just finished the contest and got 5th overall, which is a good result but I still want to do much better!

Overall it was a great learning experience for me and I am so excited to come back next year!!

Tomorrow we are headed over to New Zealand for about a week. I have a contest on the North Island in a small town called Taranakii. It is a fun little break, which generally plays into my style of surfing, so I’m stoked!

After New Zealand I am headed back to Sydney, Australia for my last contest over here, then finally home again. I will keep you guys posted on how it is all going! To watch the live webcasts or to check results in New Zealand, you can follow this link…

Lakey reaches quarterfinals at Bells Beach

After defeating Sofia Mulanovich in Round 4, Lakey fell to World No. 2 Sally Fitzgibbons with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

Next Stop in Oz is Surfest 2012

Fresh off her World Tour debut at the Roxy Pro on the Gold Coast, Lakey continues the Australian leg of her 2012 season with an ASP 6-Star Prime event. The contest is part of Surfest, a massive seaside festival held every year at Merewether Beach in Newcastle.

This year’s waiting period begins on March 12 and lasts until March 17.

Hello everyone!

Hope y’all are doing well. Sorry I have not written in a while. I have had a lot on my mind lately.

Right now I am in Australia, I have been here for about a month. I have contests over here until the end of April, so I’m not going to be home for a while!

I started off my trip with a QS at Manly Beach right outside of Sydney. It was pretty crazy because I learned to surf at Manly Surf School when I was 5 years old, and now I am competing in one of the biggest contests in the world, literally right where I stood up on my first wave!

I ended up getting 5th place overall there, which sounds good to most people but I’m not ever really satisfied with myself unless I win.

I know it sounds silly to say that but I have always just been really hard on myself. Anyways, I just finished my first ever WCT event at Snapper Rocks on the Gold Coast. I lost to Sally Fitz. I had a 9.0 and a 7.87, but Sally had a 9 and an 8.

If that happens there is really not much you can do. I surfed my heart out, but it just wasn’t enough.

Overall, I am happy with my performance at Snapper I am a rookie on tour so the other girls definitely tried to push me around a little bit, but I think I got their respect by not letting them do that. 2012 is going to be an amazing year for me, and I am really excited about it.

I will write to you guys again soon. I just want to say thank you for all of the support, I really appreciate everything!
