Mine was great, I got to spend some quality time with my brother and sister which is always the best because I don’t get to see them very often.

But in this blog I just want to reflect on 2011 and look forward to 2012.

The stars of "Leave a Message", a progressive women's surfing film put out by Nike 6.0, at the Los Angeles premiere in 2011.

2011 was a big year for me. I made the ASP World Tour, which has been a dream of mine forever; the Nike women’s movie “Leave A Message” came out which we had been working on for 2 years; I had the incredible opportunity to speak at two different schools about pursuing your dreams; and I went on a total of 54 flights and visited 10 different countries!

Looking back in 2011 It is a year I will certainly not forget. I have learned so much about myself, I just feel like I matured a lot this past year. I’m way more independent, and confident in myself, I don’t worry so much about what other people think: I just am who I am.

Looking forward to 2012… I am SO excited!!

The ASP world Tour is going to be amazing. I will have the opportunity to surf waves that I never have before. It is my rookie year so I am going to give it everything I got to win the world title!

Another goal for 2012 is definitely to meet Justin Bieber haha. It will happen!

But honestly I don’t know what 2012 is going to bring, all I know is that it’s going to be a whole new experience of traveling and exploring new places.

All I want for Christmas…..

Lakey was the Grand Marshal at the annual holiday parade in Santa Barbara. Here she is signing autographs in front of the Granada Theatre.

1. Channel Islands surfboard — I ride Channel Island surf boards and they’re amazing! the best boards you can buy!
2. Nike sportswear clothes or shoes — the Nike sportswear line has some really cute clothes and I am in LOVE with everything that is out on the sportswear line right now, so check it out!
3. Smith sunglasses — I have a pair of Smith glasses and they are amazing!
4. A McDonalds gift card! — It might sound kind of strange, but after a cold surf in the morning I have been stopping by McDonalds and getting their coffee to warm me up. It’s a quick stop and the coffee is better than Starbucks in my opinion!
5. Stomp-pads, leashes, and wax is always something a surfer needs! — you could make a little goody bag or stuff those stockings fat with this stuff
6. Booties — Sometimes surfers will buy a wet suit but don’t want to spend the money to buy booties as well, but the reality of it is when it’s winter time the water gets pretty darn cold, and it’s always nice to have a good pair of booties to keep you warm on those freezing mornings!
7. Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner — This one is probably more girls. Being a surfer, my hair gets pretty damaged and the Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner has been amazing! My hair is the longest its ever been!
8. Coconut oil — I know coconut oil is mainly used for cooking, however I’ve been using it in my hair and it works like magic!! So boys I’m telling you get your girl the Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner and coconut oil for their hair and they will be very happy!
9. The Foundation book — Foundation is something that I have been doing with my trainer for about 3 years now, the best way I can explain it would be a mix between yoga and well.. foundation! My trainer just wrote a book on it and it takes you through all of the exercises and teaches you how to do it. It has been amazing for my flexibility and not getting injured! This is not just for surfers it’s for everyone!
10. Good sunscreen! — because I am constantly in the sun it is SO important for me to have sunscreen on at all times! I recommend Viva Sana sunscreen. It is all natural and works amazing in the water and out!

Well I hope that helps you guys this Holiday season! I am off to Hawaii for 5 days then back to SB!

Lakey Peterson has a new eyewear sponsor: Smith Optics, based out of Sun Valley, Idaho

However, now I’m in Hawaii (not too shabby). I am doing a photo shoot for Smith Optics. I just signed with them, and they are so awesome! I am super stoked to be apart of the company.

The waves have been pretty small thus far but it looks like this weekend we should get some good waves!

I am only doing this photo shoot for another day or so and then I am going to be working with Double D (Derrick Donner). He is a legend in big wave surfing. He is really good friends with Laird Hamilton.

So I’m going to be working with him on some bigger wave stuff, so it will be exciting!!!

Anyways, I’m looking forward to getting back home and having a great time this holiday season hanging with family.

Lakey has earned a spot on the ASP Women’s World Tour for 2012!!

Peterson will be one of four rookies on the tour, and the youngest competitor — she just turned 17 this week.

The other rookies will be Malia Manuel, 18, of Hawaii; Sage Erickson, 20, of California and Justine Dupont, 20, of France.

Peterson is coming off a third-place finish at the ASP 6-Star Billabong Girls Azores Islands Pro.

The first stop on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Tour will be the Roxy Pro Gold Coast in Australia.

Lakey on top of the Cabreiroá Pantin Classic Pro contest site in Spain.

Haha - yes, I have kept track of them all in my phone. It’s pretty crazy to go back and look at all of the places I have gone to this year. I’m on my way from Spain to Portugal’s Azores Islands now.

The Azores are these beautiful islands off the coast of Portugal. I have never been there before, but I have heard great things!

I am going to Azores for the last QS (qualifying series) of the season. Right now I am in 2nd place to qualify for the world tour, so I am pretty much guaranteed a spot on the world tour of the top 16 women surfers next year!

This has been a dream of mine for a long time to make the tour, so it’s crazy too see it finally come true. All that hard work has paid off. But This is just the first of MANY goals of mine.

After Azores, I am going right to Bali for the ASP World Juniors. This is probably going to be my last year doing World Jrs., so I’m going to give it everything I got!

World Juniors is basically where every country takes the top 3 under-21 surfers to compete for their country. There are three events to decide who is World Junior champ. First stop Bali, Brazil, then Australia, and the person with the most points at the end of the three events is crowned champion!

I am really excited about the next month or so, all of the memories, good times, and laughs are going to be a time I will never forget. I am not going to be home for a while but once I do get home, it’s going to be the holiday season so I will get to see my whole family!

But for now, I am going to enjoy my last 13 days of being 16!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I’m going to NYC for my birthday! It’s gonna be epic!!!

“Lakey (Peterson) and I are great friends and have been surfing against each other for a long time,” Conlogue said. “I was nervous on that last wave, I knew it was a good one and that I’d have to push it to get a good score. Luckily I did some nice turns and won the Final. I love this place, the waves are great and I’m already looking forward to coming back next year.”

Peterson did some great surfing in the final, but was unable to put it all on one wave. She also landed a huge air-reverse just after the siren sounded.

“I was so bummed that I landed that air after the heat,” Peterson said. “But I’m happy with the event, I would have loved to have won, but Courtney surfed great and second is a good result for me.”

The final leg of the journey was by sea plane to get to Aragaum Bay in Sri Lanka. (ASP Photo)

However, I am having an amazing time. There are two events being held here simultaneously. The men’s long board world championships and the women’s QS, which stands for qualifying series for the pro tour.

The wave is a right hand point break, so it is a lot like places I surf at home. The air is very warm and muggy and the water temperature just right. It is a muslim country, so for religious purposes and respect to their culture, it is best to stay covered up when walking around town. Once in the water, bikinis are acceptable (for us anyway).

There are armed guards everywhere and signs saying “illegal drug possession ends in the death penalty”. Most of the buildings are half built and nothing over 2 stories. The roads are mainly dirt.

The people here are extremely friendly and helpful. The food is delicious, lots of fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. They say we may happen to see wild elephants wandering around, but I have not seen that yet.

The event (SriLankan Airlines Pro) starts tomorrow, so we shall see what transpires…stay tuned.

Summer Has Been Good!

Hi everyone!!

Hope you all are enjoying the last bit of summer! I can’t believe it is already almost over! Anyways, I just thought I would give you guys a brief update on what happening in my world.

WHAT AN AUGUST: Lakey followed up her victory at the U.S. Open Pro Junior with a win at the 6-star SuperGirl Pro Junior the next weekend.

Well, as some of you might know it has been a pretty hectic but good summer for me. The U.S. Open was a blast and I was so excited to win the Jr. Pro and get second in the Open. It has been a goal of mine for a long time to make the finals and win the Jr, so that was a big accomplishment for me!

A big thanks to Nike and Hurley for putting on such a great event as well.

After the U.S. Open I didn’t have much down time… the next weekend, I had the Super Girl Pro jr. It was the last Pro Junior of the season, so it was great to top off the season with a win. Since then I have just been home, hanging out with my friends, talking to boys… just being a normal teenager.

It’s been a great time to just relax for a bit! However, I only have a week left at home then I am off to Sri Lanka! There is a 6-star QS event over there. I am really excited to go because I heard that the wave is great, and the place is BEAUTIFUL!! Don’t worry I will make a video blog for you guys!

My mom just told me that we are going to ride on elephants!! Yay, SO EXCITED! Anyways that is what is next for me then from there I am off to Spain and Portugal. I’ll write to you guys before then though!!
